Homemade Fried Kunafa

 






Ingredients:

250 g  Kunafa dough (ready made)

Cream Filling

Sugar Syrup

Dried Blueberry for toppings

Directions:

Sugar Syrup:

2 cups sugar

1 cup water

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp orange blossom water

Heat the water and sugar in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and continue boiling for another 10 minutes, or until the texture become syrupy. Add lemon juice and continue boiling for another 2 minutes. remove from the heat and stir in the orange blossom water. Let it cool and set aside while preparing the cream filling.

Cream Filling:

1 cup liquid milk

1 cup cream, I used Nestle Cream in a can

3 tbsp cornflour, dissolved in 1/4 cup milk

2 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp orange blossom water

In a saucepan, mix the milk, sugar and cream and heat the mixture. Add the dissolved cornflour in milk on the mixture and let it boil until bubbly. Remove from heat and stir in the orange blossom water. Leave the mixture to cool and set.

Kunafa Dough Preparation:

Kunafa dough

1/2 cup butter, melted

oil for frying

Rub the kunafa strand with melted butter. Take a strands of the dough and make a small round shapes. Continue with the rest of the dough. Heat oil in a pan and fry the shaped dough, carefully dipping in the hot oil, pressing a bit to keep the shape. Fry until light golden brown. 

Fill dough with 2 tablespoon of the cream mixture, then press slightly. Arrange on a serving tray, then pour syrup on top. Decorate with more cream mixture , and dried blueberry , or any dried fruits you desire.
