Basbousa with Ground Almonds

 




Ingredients:

1 cup butter, melted

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

2 cups semolina

1 cup ground almonds 

1 cup of water

1/2 cup desiccated coconut , for topping (if desired)

Syrup:

2 cups sugar

1 1/2 cups water

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp rosewater

   Combine the sugar and water into a small pan, let it boil for 10 minutes in a medium heat , add lemon juice. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes until syrup starts to thicken, then add the rosewater. Set aside to cool. 

Directions:

In a medium bowl. combine melted butter and condensed milk. Stir well.

Add semolina, ground almonds, baking powder, and water. Stir until well combined.

Pour mixture into greased pan and flatten with spoon. Bake in a preheated oven for 35 minutes at 190 C or until light brown.

Remove from oven and pour all over the cold syrup. Let it cool completely. Cut into squares, add desiccated coconut as toppings, if desired.
